5 years isn't long enough...

... to make the pain go away.
It's hard to imagine that it's been 5 years today since my dad passed away. As with most things, some days it seems like it's been longer, and other days- it seems like it just happened.

I still remember that Monday morning when my mom came home after her morning visits with him. She typically went straight to work and called me from the road. When she walked in the door and told me, I thought it was a joke and was in complete shock.
I cried and cried and cried...

Sunday (yesterday) was a hard day realizing that 5 years ago that day, was the last day my siblings and myself spoke with dad. That day seemed like it was just yesterday to me. I remember going to visit him after church, alone. We talked and everything seemed normal. Dad always told me how much he loved me and what a good job I was doing raising my girls. I didn't think anything of it. I always, ALWAYS knew that my dad loved me.

I was there when the boys from the ward came and brought the sacrament to him, which I loved, and know dad did too. Dad had SO many people who loved him. He was a lucky man.

That same Sunday, after the family had gone to see him throughout the day, the Stake Presidency had gone to visit him. We learned this the next day, but it's a memory that always helps me remember that my dads life was truly in the Lords hands. Pres. Roberts later told my mom that he administered the blessing. He said that he blessed my dad that he'd be able to go home. When he shared this with my mom, he apologized because he said his intentions were that my dad would go home... to my mom, not to his eternal home.
My testimony of the Gospel is strengthened every time I think of this experience.
My dad was called home by our Heavenly Father.
How lucky is he?

As sad as I may feel, and as much as I miss him,
I know that he was needed more on the other side.
It's hard to imagine because I could totally use him here,
but I am okay with that.

A day doesn't go by when I don't think of him. I feel lucky to have been his daughter. He was an amazingly patient, loving, giving, family oriented man who would truly do anything for anyone.
Sometimes I think he was too good to be on the earth, and that's why he was needed on the other side... to help prepare the way for the rest of us that are still here.

Thank you dad for being the most humble, righteous and loving dad anyone could ask for!
I love you more than I can begin to express!

Love,
DRC

Deb you have me crying right now too. I love you and your wonderful family. I have so many memories of Papa too. He was an amazing man and had a heart of gold. anyone that met him would instantly know what a loving, kindhearted man he was. I am very lucky to have had him touch my life too. Deb I know he is proud of the things you have accomplished in your life since he left you and that he watches over you and your family!

Deb,
What a lovely tribute to your loving Dad.
I KNOW that he watches over you and your family.
I KNOW that the veil is only as thick as we make it.
I KNOW that those wonderful sealing bonds are in effect and bind us together for eternity.
I KNOW that this is hard,
but I also KNOW that we have a loving Heavenly Father who will wrap his arms around us and comfort us in our times of sorrow and grief.
I love you and your family!
Joanie

Thanks for the tears. I can't tell you how I totally relate to you today. Yesterday was one of the days we were called to the hospital because my dad wasn't going to make it . . . .but he did for a few more days. I'm so glad you can say you KNOW he was needed more there, cause I still wonder sometimes how that's possible. I do know I'm very grateful for Lord's Plan for us, and you strengthen MY testimony. I'm also positive, our dads are together. I don't know about your dad, but I'm sure mine is reeking havoc at times. :) I love you!

Crying now, was crying yesterday while Sandie bore her testimony. I can't inagine living without my dad. It breaks my heart to even think of it. I don't think I am strong enough. It breaks my heart to think of the girls, like you and your sisters, my bff from HS, my mom, who have to live without there dads. My BFF lost her dad 2 years ago and that was the saddest thing I have ever seen, I bawled and bawled at the funeral. I know that we will see them again in the here after but, it seems so far away. My heart goes out to you. You are an amazing person. I love you to pieces!

I did not know your dad as much as I would of liked to, but I know what an amazing man he was by all the things my huspand says about him. Out of all the families Chris met on his mission, your family was the one he loved and talked about the most, the one that he took his newly married wife to meet, the one that made me feel apart of your home. thanks for your friendship

Deb,
It's too bad we don't realize how much we love someone until they are gone. I remember your dad and I fighting over how cold it was (or was not) Sunday mornings before the bishopric meetings...those were good times!
I won't even tell you how many times I tried to tell him that Fallon, Nev was actually the Garden of Eden. ( You know , of course that it is Starr Valley)
Take care,
bishop ditto

Debra, you have such a great spirit about you. Your dad raised you well (I know your mom helped..lol) But Skip and I loved your dad and looked up to him as a great friend with a humble and loving spirit. I can't believe it has been 5 years, how time moves on. Hold that love forever and remember, it's not luck...you are blessed. love you, sis.fitz
